Boulder field
Sahanlahti is an old sawmill, through whose yard the main road from Puumala used to run. There are many boulders in the yard, both individually and in piles, and boulder caves have also formed in connection with the piles. Throughout history, these caves have been playgrounds for the village children, as evidenced by, for example, a wall over half a meter high built next to one of the caves.
Tupavuori Cave
The rock, consisting of granite-like biotite hornblende gneiss, has a large boulder and crevice cave, which can be accessed through a crack. The cave was formed when horizontal and vertical cracks deepened as the continental ice sheet detached boulders from the rock. The cave is dark in places, so it is advisable to bring a flashlight.
The cave system is also said to have served as a hiding place during times of war. According to one story, some of the soldiers traveling on the lake heard a child crying in the cave, but because their leader heard nothing, he ordered the group to continue on their way. The people hiding in the cave got away with a scare.
Tupavuori is also a geocaching spot. Tupavuori is about 2 km from Sahanlahti and is easily accessible by car.
